Sora, a new video generation tool launched by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, is aimed at winning over movie studios. Altman recently met with Hollywood executives to persuade them to use this technology in their production process. Studies have shown interest in using Sora, which can save time and money.

In February, OpenAI introduced Sora, a video generator that creates realistic videos based on user queries. These videos can be up to one minute long and include complex scenes with multiple characters, specific types of movements, and accurate details. During meetings with Paramount, Universal, and Warner Bros Discovery executives, Altman and OpenAI’s COO Brad Lightcap introduced Sora and asked for help rolling out the tool. While some studios have expressed interest in using Sora in their production process, no formal contracts have been made yet.

After concerns about AI’s potential impact on the film business, Altman is now in talks with Hollywood executives to reassure them that Sora won’t destroy the industry. The move comes after disruption caused by major strikes by actors and writers against the studio last year.

Sora has recently released third-party videos showcasing its capabilities, including flying pigs and an underwater fashion show. Other competitors are also working on similar text-to-video tools such as Google’s Runway, Emu Video, Lumiere and Meta’s Runway.

OpenAI is backed by Akel Springer, the parent company of Business Insider, has a global deal to train its reporting models for its media brands providing further advancements in AI technology for the media industry.
