The new Da Vinci Science Center in downtown Allentown is set to be a colorful addition to the city’s cultural scene, thanks to the talents of local artists and students. Hundreds of students are involved in a project to paint a mural on the wall of the center, which will be 120 feet long and directly based on children’s drawings and designs.
Local artist and art teacher Carla Majchan was selected to work with the students on this project. She had students at Lehigh Valley Children’s Centers create art and designs based on her art and science lesson plans. These students produced boxes full of art and ideas, which Carla then sorted through to create the final mural design. The mural will be installed in the new science center in late May or early June, with an opening date scheduled for May 22.
The project began Thursday morning, with children meeting at the Judith Chase Early Learning Center on Chev Street to begin painting. This collaboration between artists, students, and community organizations is sure to create a vibrant and engaging space for visitors to explore science and art.
