After five years of providing low-cost medical care to patients, Walmart has decided to close its 51 health clinics and its telehealth business. The closure of Walmart Health Clinics will affect Texas communities, including cities such as Fort Worth, Garland and Tyler. Since the first clinics opened in 2019, Walmart Health Centers have provided a variety of services, including medical, dental and behavioral health care. As Walmart shifts its focus away from health clinics, the company plans to concentrate on its pharmacies and vision centers across the United States.
Walmart’s pharmacies now offer test and treat services, specialty drug access, medication therapy management and health screenings. In addition, Walmart introduced new features to its vision centers, such as the ability to virtually try on using augmented reality. With this move, Walmart is looking to strengthen its position in the retail industry by focusing on providing essential services to its customers while streamlining its operations.
