Woven City, a futuristic city located at the foot of Mount Fuji in Japan, is set to revolutionize urban living with its eco-friendly and technologically advanced design. The city, designed by Toyota, will use solar energy, smart fuel cells and zero-emission vehicles. The first phase of the city will see 2,000 residents move in later this year as part of a nearly $10 billion study aimed at researching driver and pedestrian behavior.

Residents of Woven City will live in homes that are primarily powered by hydrogen, making the city environmentally friendly. These homes will have solar panels on the roof and AI technology to monitor the health of the home. Every vehicle and house in the city will be interconnected through data and sensors, creating a cohesive living environment. The city will also include robots to assist residents with daily tasks, promoting independence and comfort.

Woven City’s streets will be divided into three types, including pedestrian zones, high-speed roads and low-speed roads. The city will only allow zero-emission vehicles, with special provisions for senior citizens and wheelchair-accessible vehicles. The city’s grid-like design features multiple open spaces to encourage community interaction and engagement.

Danish architect Bjarke Ingels was commissioned to design Woven City. Ingels believes technology is rapidly transforming urban life, with connected, automated, zero-emission solutions offering new possibilities for city living. Woven City residents come from a variety of backgrounds such as families to merchants to scientists creating a vibrant and dynamic community in this cutting-edge testing city.
