Green Dome, Eco-Friendly Construction: Kajima Corporation’s Use of Low-Carbon Concrete in Osaka-Kansai Expo Dome Construction

In an effort to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, Kajima Corporation has announced plans to use low-carbon concrete in the construction of a concrete dome for the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo. The company will utilize a type of low-carbon concrete that reduces emissions by 70% compared to conventional construction methods. The dome, which will serve as an environmental education exhibition space, is scheduled to be built in the West Gate area of the exhibition space and is expected to be completed by November 2024.

The dome will be made of reinforced concrete and stand at 5.45 meters high, with an oval shape measuring 23 by 18 meters in diameter. To achieve significant reductions in CO2 emissions, Kajima plans to use low-carbon concrete together with technology that absorbs CO2 during production. By doing so, they anticipate reducing CO2 emissions by a considerable amount.
