At the Illinois State Tournament, the New Trier Science Olympiad team demonstrated their impressive science skills by winning first place. The varsity team finished with 84 points, just two points ahead of Adlai E. Stevenson High School of Lincolnshire. The University of Chicago Laboratory School placed a distant third.

New Trier’s team at the national championships won numerous medals and honors in various science disciplines, marking their first overall victory since 2018. Members of the team from Novi Trier received awards in various categories at the tournament. Freshmen Kate Kang and Sophia Yang won 3rd place medals, while sophomores Brian Ren, Elan Hao, Vivian Chen and Justin Lu won 1st place medals. Juniors Malachia Noel, Kevin Huang, Steven Zhao, Varun Murali and Kaci Morris each won multiple gold or silver medals, while Nicholas Circolone also received a bronze. Seniors Pranshu Rao and Tiana Wu took 1st place in two events.

Prior to their recent success at the state tournament, New Trier excelled at the regional tournament at Oakton College where they took first place in the varsity division and first and second place in the junior varsity division. With strong results in both tournaments, the team now prepares for the national tournament at Michigan State University on May 25th. Financial support for the New Trier Science Olympiad program including travel expenses for out-of-state competitions is provided through the James Marran Grants Program of the New Trier Educational Foundation which aims to ensure that all students can participate in Science Olympiad regardless of their family’s financial situation.
