In a significant move towards advancing sustainable battery recycling practices, Call2Recicle Canada has teamed up with Electronic Distributors International Inc (EDI) to implement a new battery sorting technology. This investment is in line with the company’s goal of improving battery recycling infrastructure and diversion initiatives in the region.

Located at EDI’s facility in Orillia, Ontario, this state-of-the-art battery sorting equipment is one of only four in the world and will significantly increase Ontario’s end-of-life battery sorting and recycling capacity. With this new technology, EDI’s plant will double its ability to efficiently sort used batteries.

“We are committed to modernizing the recycling industry and investing in sustainable solutions that meet the evolving needs of our partners,” said Norman York, Managing Partner at EDI. He highlighted the importance of pioneering technology-based battery sorting in North America to promote responsible recycling practices.

Joe Zenobio, President of Call2Recicle Canada, praised EDI for its innovative approach to driving positive change in the recycling sector. “This partnership represents a key step forward in advancing sustainable battery recycling practices in Ontario and sets a precedent for innovative waste management solutions in North America,” he noted.

Advances like this not only help improve Ontario’s battery recycling infrastructure but also increase efficiency, support larger battery collections, reduce environmental impact and stimulate the local economy.
